The battle resumes at McLaren
After a weekend break, Formula 1 fires up again in Montreal for an overseas race that interrupts the sequence of European events. At the Canadian track, McLaren arrives as the clear favorite, especially since the introduction of new front wing regulations at Montmeló did not affect the Woking team’s dominance, who scored their third double podium of the season in Catalonia.
With the Barcelona weekend, McLaren dealt a significant blow to the Drivers’ Championship, pushing Max Verstappen 49 points behind the lead. With this gap and the looming threat of a possible disqualification hanging over the Dutchman — weather permitting — it is reasonable to expect Max Verstappen to take fewer risks in Montreal, making the race a likely duel between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
Lando Norris’ words
In Montreal, where McLaren has not won since 2012, Norris wants to close the gap to his teammate in the drivers’ standings: “After a weekend off from racing, I’m excited to get back on track. It was nice to spend some time with the team in Woking last week, where we reviewed the season and worked hard to prepare for the Canadian Grand Prix. Montreal is a fantastic city and I love racing here. We will do everything possible to fight for the win and bring home more important points.”
Oscar Piastri’s words
Oscar Piastri must defend his 10-point lead and aims for his sixth win of the season: “I feel very confident and focused ahead of Montreal. It’s a good opportunity to maintain this momentum, and I’m looking forward to racing on a low-downforce circuit. Barcelona was a good weekend for me, and I’m happy to get back to racing right after the break. The team is doing an excellent job across the board, and together we keep pushing thanks to all the hard work.” – he concluded ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix.
