The FIA imposed substantial penalties on Max Verstappen for his clash with Lando Norris early in the Mexican Grand Prix, but Zak Brown feels the sanctions fell short. The McLaren CEO has openly criticized Verstappen’s driving, questioning whether the Red Bull driver was penalized harshly enough.
When asked by Sky Sports if he believed the two 10-second penalties were justified, Brown’s response was direct: Probably not enough! It’s getting a bit ridiculous. So I applaud the FIA stewards. Enough’s enough. Let’s just have some good clean racing moving forward. Lando drove brilliantly. Congratulations to Carlos. He drove a brilliant race. That was an exciting race!”
When asked about the Max Verstappen – Lando Norris incident and any intention to approach the FIA, Brown responded that he felt the stewards handled the situation well. “I think the stewards are on it, I think that’s clear by the penalties that they assessed. So I don’t think we need to do anything. Just let the stewards do their job, they did a good job this weekend,” the American stressed.
He also shared his perspective on the Constructors’ Championship following Ferrari’s latest victory: “It’s a lot tighter than I’d like it to be, but it’s great for Formula One. Great to see Ferrari and McLaren going at it for the World Championship. Certainly can’t rule out Red Bull. They’re not far behind, but it’s gonna be an exciting finish to the season,” the McLaren CEO added at the end of the Mexico City Grand Prix.
