The Mexican Grand Prix, the 20th event of the 2024 Formula 1 season, is shaping up to be a highly positive weekend for Haas. With the results from qualifying, they managed for the first time this season to get both cars into Q3 and thus start in the top 10, with Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg’s cars.
In the Mexico City Grand Prix qualifying, which saw Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz take pole position, his sixth in Formula 1, Kevin Magnussen secured seventh place, while Nico Hulkenberg will start from tenth. Between the two Haas drivers are Alpine’s Pierre Gasly in eighth and Williams’ Alexander Albon in ninth.
Kevin Magnussen Starts P7: “Good Chances to Finish in the Top 10”
Kevin Magnussen, who achieved his best qualifying result of the 2024 Formula 1 campaign, said: “It was a good qualifying for us, with both cars in the top 10. Seventh place for me is great, but tomorrow will be a long day. We’ve checked the qualifying box, and now we start from seventh, which gives us good chances to finish in the top 10.”
Ayao Komatsu, Haas Team Principal, is very pleased with his drivers’ performance: “It was a very tight qualifying, and I’m happy that both cars reached Q3. Kevin’s final lap was fantastic; he beat Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon, and seventh is a good spot to start from. Nico was doing very well up to the third sector, but I’m sure he’ll race hard tomorrow to finish ahead of the Racing Bulls.” – he explained at the end of the qualifying session for the Mexico City Grand Prix at the 4.304-kilometre Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City.
To see if Haas’s strong Mexican qualifying will convert into critical points for the Constructors’ standings, where the American team currently sits in sixth with 38 points, chased by the Racing Bulls with 36 points, we’ll have to wait for the race start at 9:00 PM.
