No penalties for Safety Car infractions
Lando Norris received a penalty that was irrelevant to the final result since he retired from the Canadian GP, but this will not affect the Austrian GP because his McLaren was still classified in the results, having completed nearly the entire 70 laps scheduled.
Lando Norris was penalized five seconds because he was deemed solely responsible for the incident with Oscar Piastri, in which the English driver slightly rear-ended his McLaren teammate’s car. Oscar Piastri’s car suffered no damage and he finished the race in fourth place. The fact that Oscar Piastri was not seriously affected is the reason why the stewards only imposed a five-second penalty.
Lando Norris immediately apologized to the team, taking full responsibility for what he described as “a stupid mistake.” There were no penalties for infractions related to overtaking after the checkered flag while the Safety Car was still on track. Kimi Antonelli, Oscar Piastri, Esteban Ocon, Charles Leclerc, Calos Sainz, Pierre Gasly, and Lance Stroll received warnings.
