The Red Bull driver passes the crown to Lando Norris
The Dutchman loses the #1 for just two points
Two points. Max Verstappen narrowly missed completing a historic comeback by just two points, a tiny margin that could be debated over countless moments—most notably the on-track clash with George Russell in Barcelona, which Verstappen himself admitted in the aftermath.
The Red Bull driver relinquishes the number #1 after three consecutive years, yet he still managed to claim the satisfaction of winning more races than anyone else this season, with eight victories. “What does this year teach me? To always believe and never give up,” Verstappen told Sky Sports. “We have to be proud of ourselves, of how we managed to overcome challenging moments when it would have been easy to throw everything away.”
“Have we seen the best Max ever in 2025? I think so. We did everything we could without ever giving up,” added the Red Bull driver. “We have no regrets and are satisfied with what we achieved.” – the four-time Formula 1 world champion concluded at the end of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Red Bull and Max Verstappen head into the winter stronger, hungrier and armed with the ultimate proof that even when the championship looks lost, two points is sometimes all that separates despair from glory.
