A return from the break perhaps better than he imagined. Max Verstappen set the fastest time in the sprint qualifying for the Austin GP and will therefore start from pole position again.
Red Bull arrived on Texan soil with significant updates to the RB20, especially under the chassis. The new updates were meant to help the Milton Keynes car regain the balance it had lost for quite a few races, and the first results are encouraging. Despite low expectations going into the weekend, the three-time world champion sent a message to everyone, especially to Lando Norris. The Englishman will start from fourth place after a lap described as shocking.
Max Verstappen’s satisfaction
At the end of the sprint qualifying session at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Max Verstappen expressed his happiness about being back on pole position: “We had a good day,” the Dutchman explained. “Of course, sprint qualifying is always very tricky. You do mediums, mediums, and then the softs. You never know how much you can push. However, I’m satisfied with today. I think the car worked quite well throughout the day. Naturally, I’m also very happy to be first. It’s been a while.” – the world champion explained.
“This circuit is fantastic to drive on. Now with the new asphalt and the older one, the uneven surface, it’s not easy. In the end, it’s the same for everyone, but tackling it in one lap is not always easy. We’ll do our best tomorrow,” Max Verstappen concluded. “But we know most of the points are scored on Sunday. That’s where we really want to do well.”
The Red Bull driver also has statistics on his side. Max Verstappen has won all three Sprint Races contested so far this season and will definitely want to keep the streak going.
