“People should just focus on themselves”
During the summer break, there was a lot of talk in Formula 1 about the now-infamous asymmetric braking, a braking system capable of simulating four-wheel steering, allowing better corner entry with much less understeer, one of the significant issues with the new generation of ground-effect cars.
According to various reports, this system was supposedly used by Red Bull from the beginning of the season until the Chinese Grand Prix, allowing the Milton Keynes team (and Max Verstappen) to dominate the first third of the championship and take a significant lead in the standings.
However, on July 31, the FIA put an end to the speculation, stating that none of the ten teams had adopted such a solution and modifying Article 11.2.1 of the technical regulations, according to which “The braking system must be designed so that, within each circuit, the forces applied to the brake pads are of the same magnitude and act as opposing pairs on a given brake disc.”
“Any system or mechanism that can systematically or intentionally produce asymmetric braking forces on a given axle is prohibited.” – the Dutchman pointed out – “People always come up with different things,” Max Verstappen commented in a recent interview for the Motorsport website, reflecting on the controversies of recent months. “I find it really bizarre how they come up with certain things, but that’s how it is. It’s part of the game, but usually, I just let it go. I’ve been in F1 for 10 years, and I don’t want to waste time with all these stories. In any case, I hardly read anything about F1. Sure, sometimes I see something, or someone tells me, ‘Did you see what this or that person said?'” – he added.
“I always say that people can think whatever they want. I’m not going to waste my energy on this. So, I don’t care what others say.”
One of the most prominent figures to have criticized Red Bull since the beginning of the season, both on and off the track, is undoubtedly Zak Brown.
The McLaren CEO was one of the first to comment on the sexual scandal involving Christian Horner in the early months of 2024, aiming to stir up more trouble in a team already quite destabilized by media storms.
For Max Verstappen, however, the “critics” should only focus on their own team: “People who say these kinds of things should just concentrate on their own team.”
“There’s nothing specific against Zak Brown, anyway. It applies to everyone. People should just focus on themselves, and that’s what I’m doing too.”
