Max Verstappen was the protagonist of an incredible comeback in the rain of Brazil. A performance that will go down in history. Some luck, of course, but the comeback by Max Verstappen in Brazil is something only champions do.
Starting from 17th position, the three-time champion delivered a crazy performance. Rising to second place, thanks also to the pit stops of his rivals, the Dutchman then made the most of the red flag caused by Franco Colapinto.
The interruption of the race allowed him to change tires without losing the usual time for a pit stop. Once the race resumed, Max Verstappen passed Esteban Ocon and set an unmatchable pace for everyone.
A stunning comeback
At the end of the race in Brazil, Max Verstappen spoke about his comeback to Sky Sport F1. He was filled with joy for the victory, aware that he had done something special.
“Probably this was the best comeback of my career,” the Dutchman declared. “It’s somewhat similar to the race I did here in 2016. Back then I didn’t win, but I had a very good pace there too. Today was a crazy day.”
Anger with the FIA
“This morning I was really angry after qualifying,” Max Verstappen continued. “What happened was frustrating but motivated me even more for the race. I surprised myself. In these conditions, I feel good; I really like them. The car also gives me the confidence to push.”
“The car did what I wanted. There was that combination, like in many instances last year, and when that happens we are unstoppable. It’s a very positive result for us. I hope that from now on we can stay out of trouble. If I had had a bad race, maybe I would have commented more on the FIA’s decisions, but now I think it’s better not to talk about it.” – the three-time Formula 1 world champion concluded at the end of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix in Interlagos.
With the victory in Brazil, Max Verstappen has increased his lead to 62 points over Lando Norris, and with only three races left, it feels like a knockout blow.
