Fernando Alonso complained of back problems during the Brazilian GP: a viral video shows the two-time world champion being assisted by Aston Martin mechanics as he exits the car.
The weekend in Brazil could not have ended worse for Fernando Alonso. The Aston Martin driver had managed to qualify ninth this morning after the session was postponed due to bad weather the day before.
However, the race did not go as planned. Lance Stroll was already out after the formation lap, leaving the task to the two-time world champion, who did his best to stay on track despite his car being nearly undriveable.
“I will finish the race for the mechanics. They really did a great job today. But my back hurts. This bouncing isn’t normal,” Alonso shared on team radio during the final stages of the Brazilian GP.
These were kind words from the Aston Martin driver, who, despite his physical pain, chose to continue racing to not waste his team’s efforts.
At the end of the race, the Asturian was devastated by back pain. In a video that has been circulating on social media and has gone viral in recent hours, the 43-year-old can be seen struggling to get out of the cockpit. In the parc fermé, Fernando Alonso is helped by some of his mechanics and shows evident difficulty standing. At one point in the video, Carlos Sainz can also be seen approaching to check on his colleague’s condition.
With the double podium for the two Alpine cars, which places them sixth in the championship, Aston Martin still finds itself in the dark but remains fourth with 86 points.
