The four-time world champion has never won at Marina Bay
The Singapore Grand Prix remains the only race Max Verstappen has yet to win in recent years to complete his ‘album’ of Formula 1 circuits. The Dutch driver has finished second twice at Marina Bay, once in 2018 and again last year. A potential win on a track that, on paper, looks challenging for the RB21 would send another warning signal to McLaren after Oscar Piastri’s heavy defeat in the last two rounds, where the points tally was 50–15 in Verstappen’s favor.
“The last two races have been fantastic for the team,” Max Verstappen said. “We’ve made great progress, found a strong setup with the car and are moving in the right direction. Both tracks were low downforce circuits where we achieved good results, and Singapore is quite different, so it will be more of a test. It’s a very physically demanding circuit for all drivers, and in this race it’s about getting comfortable with the discomfort. It’s a fun street track to drive, but obviously I’ve never won there, so you could say I still have some unfinished business. We need a strong team performance, so we’re looking forward to seeing what the week brings.”
Tsunoda arrives in Singapore with confidence
Yuki Tsunoda heads into the Singapore Grand Prix after claiming sixth place in Baku, his best result so far as a Red Bull driver: “The last race was super positive for the team and for me. I feel like I’m moving in the right direction with the car, and the hard work we’ve all been putting in is paying off during race weekends. Baku is obviously a unique track, and Singapore will be very different for us and could be a big challenge. There are so many factors that come into play there: the humidity, the night race, the street circuit layout. It’s one of the toughest tests we face as drivers, but that’s also what makes it fun, and I enjoy preparing for it and racing there. I went to the factory before this race, and seeing how many people are working hard to make a difference on track is incredible — it makes you want to push even more. Then I stopped in Tokyo with Red Bull before coming to Singapore, and spending time with my home fans gives me another big boost that I’ll carry into this weekend.”
