Always Hungry for More
Max Verstappen aims to finish the 2024 season on a high note, even though he has already secured his fourth consecutive world title. The reigning champion’s hunger for victory shows no sign of abating, as he seeks to claim his 10th win of the season at Yas Marina. A victory here could mean much more than just another triumph.
Another Record?
If Max Verstappen manages to take the top step of the podium at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the 27-year-old would become only the third driver in Formula 1 history to win the same GP five times in a row—a feat that stands as an absolute record. Currently, in addition to the Emirati race, Verstappen has achieved three consecutive wins in the Emilia-Romagna, Spanish, and Canadian GPs. The 2025 season could see him join the exclusive club of drivers with four consecutive wins at the same GP.
Ayrton Senna, the Prince of Monaco
The first driver to achieve five consecutive victories at the same GP was Ayrton Senna, whose accomplishment is legendary due to the challenging nature of the circuit: Monte Carlo. The Brazilian won six times in Monaco over his career and dominated between 1989 and 1993, delivering masterful performances in other editions as well. These include his near-win in 1984 with Toleman in wet conditions and his stunning 1988 pole lap, where he outpaced teammate Alain Prost by almost 1.5 seconds. Senna’s first Monaco victory came in 1987 while driving for Lotus.
Lewis Hamilton in Barcelona
Lewis Hamilton, who has often cited Ayrton Senna as his idol, shares this particular record with the Brazilian legend. Unlike Max Verstappen, the future Ferrari driver won’t have the chance to match or surpass this feat in 2025. However, in 2021, the seven-time champion secured five consecutive victories in the Spanish GP. From 2017—the season after his collision with Rosberg and Verstappen’s first career win—the Briton was nearly unstoppable, at least until 2022, when Verstappen broke his streak. Hamilton also holds the record for most Spanish GP wins, tied with Michael Schumacher. In addition to his consecutive victories, Lewis Hamilton triumphed in Spain in 2014.
