Uncertain future?
During today’s press conference in Jeddah ahead of the Saudi Arabian GP weekend, Max Verstappen was at the center of attention. The Dutchman received many questions regarding last weekend’s disappointing performance in Bahrain—where he finished only sixth due to the poor performance of his RB21—and about ongoing rumors linking him with a potential departure from Red Bull.
Max Verstappen responded by confirming—at least in words—his full commitment to the Milton Keynes-based team, with which he has a contract until the end of 2028. However, he also appeared annoyed by the persistence of some journalists on the topic, and had a seemingly tense exchange with British commentator David Croft, who has long been the voice of F1 for Sky Sports UK.
Back-and-forth
David Croft highlighted recent remarks by Helmut Marko, who had expressed concern that Max Verstappen might be considering leaving Red Bull, and asked Max for a comment. The world champion sidestepped the question, saying he was focused on improving the car. The British commentator then pressed further, asking outright: “So you’re not thinking about leaving Red Bull anytime soon?”
“No. You focus on commentary, I’ll focus on driving, so there’ll be no need to think about other scenarios,” was Verstappen’s reply. He then smiled and gave a thumbs-up when David Croft responded: “We’re just concerned about you.” Despite the smiles, this exchange seems to confirm the not-so-smooth relationship Verstappen has with the British press, with whom tensions have emerged more than once.
