Second place in Canada boosts Verstappen’s confidence: Max avoids disqualification with a clean race and now looks to Austria to keep his title hopes alive.
The chequered flag in the Canadian GP hands George Russell his first win of the season ahead of a composed Max Verstappen: the Dutchman escapes disqualification with a solid race and now targets “home Austria” to continue believing in the title fight.
The final laps of the Canadian Grand Prix delivered several surprises. The clash between the two McLarens took Lando Norris out of contention, with Norris himself admitting fault in the incident. The resulting Safety Car led the drivers to the finish at the end of lap 70. Alongside Russell and Antonelli—who claimed his first F1 podium—Max Verstappen certainly had reason to smile.
Max Verstappen avoids disqualification and believes in the championship after Canada
Second place in Montreal satisfies the four-time world champion: “It was the best we could do; it was a good race even though we struggled a bit in the first two stints. It went well. We executed a good race, attacking with strategy while defending well on track. We managed to hold our own in the final stint.”
Moreover, Max Verstappen does not want to give up on his title ambitions. After the tenth round of the season in Montreal, Max is 43 points behind the championship leader. “Title fight? We’ll take it race by race—the season is long, and we have to optimise every weekend. Hopefully we can perform well in Austria; we’ve always had strong results there. Today in Canada we did a good Grand Prix—let’s repeat this performance at Spielberg!”
