It won’t be an easy race in Canada for Lando Norris, who didn’t achieve a satisfying result in qualifying.
Lando Norris finished Canadian qualifying in seventh place and will share the fourth row with Charles Leclerc. It will be important to keep an eye on the front positions given the dangerous duo occupying the top two spots, but both the McLaren and Ferrari drivers should not be underestimated. For both, coming off a disappointing qualifying session, the race will be a chance for redemption and an opportunity to change the course of their weekend.
In his first Q3 attempt, the British driver made a mistake in the final sector of the track, forcing him to abort the lap. In the final moments, his lap time didn’t allow him to challenge for the top spot, which initially went to his teammate before being improved by Max Verstappen and George Russell.
It won’t be a simple Grand Prix for Lando Norris, who once again paid the price for errors made at the most crucial moment. He admitted as much in interviews, explaining: “I just pushed a bit too hard and made too many mistakes.” The frustration is even greater knowing there was potential to achieve more. Lando Norris believes he could have placed in the top three, just like his teammate.
“It’s hard to say how much better the medium tyre worked, especially as grip was increasing. Maybe the medium was slightly better, but it was a gamble. It was a risk, and I guess every team had its own view of what was best. But we did what we did, and I didn’t put all the pieces together when it mattered. I think we’re maybe a bit quicker than some of the cars ahead of us, but not all of them.”
