Everything still in play
To know what Liam Lawson’s future in Formula 1 will be – and consequently that of Yuki Tsunoda, Isack Hadjar, and young talent Arvid Lindblad – we will have to wait until the final Grand Prix of the season in Abu Dhabi. And even then, it might not be enough. Racing Bulls team principal Alan Permane explained that both Red Bull and RB are still involved in crucial championship battles. Red Bull is fighting for both the Drivers’ title with Max Verstappen and second place in the Constructors’ Championship, while RB must defend sixth place. As a result, any announcements regarding driver line-ups are being postponed to avoid distracting the drivers.
“We ourselves are engaged in a very tight battle [for sixth place], and Red Bull is also fighting hard in the Constructors’ Championship [for second place],” Alan Permane commented when asked about the future of Liam Lawson and the other drivers. “We just want a bit of stability, and this could continue until the end of the season. So you might not know until Monday morning after Abu Dhabi. I don’t know exactly when the announcement will be made, but this is the reason. It has nothing to do with next year’s regulations.”
The most likely scenario
Currently, Liam Lawson is losing the direct comparison with French driver Isack Hadjar and seems destined – at best – to remain with Racing Bulls. Isack Hadjar is expected to be the favorite to partner Max Verstappen at Red Bull, while Arvid Lindblad is likely to be promoted to a full-time seat at RB. This would leave Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda competing for the final available seat at RB.
