“Being a Red Bull driver has been my dream since I was a child,” with these words, Liam Lawson speaks for the first time after leaving the team.
On a turbulent day, the Milton Keynes-based team confirmed what we had previously hinted at. Yuki Tsunoda has been promoted to Red Bull as Max Verstappen’s new teammate, while Liam Lawson will return to Racing Bulls.
A decision that did not sit well with the four-time world champion. On social media, the Dutchman, along with other drivers on the grid, was noticed for liking a post that accused Red Bull of bullying.
Liam Lawson admitted to having difficulty adapting to a “not simple” car, as stated by the team consultant Helmut Marko. At the same time, the young #30 driver already knew his fate was sealed: he wouldn’t have had enough time to understand the car.
“This is what I’ve worked for my whole life,” Lawson’s social media post continued. “It’s tough, but I’m grateful for everything that has gotten me here. To everyone who has been by my side, thank you for all the support. It means a lot.”
Finally, words for the Faenza team: “Thanks to Visa Cash App Racing Bulls for the warm welcome. I’m excited and ready to work in one of my favorite places [Japan, ed.].”
Indeed, the Yuki Tsunoda – Liam Lawson swap will take effect from the next race weekend in Suzuka. For more information on the 2025 driver lineup, we refer you to this article.
