The New Zealander read Lewis Hamilton’s book with great interest, and during his early years as a young Formula 1 fan, the Briton was his favorite driver, despite his strong ties to the Austrian team whose colors he will represent in a few months.
Liam Lawson clarified that while his idol as a driver is Lewis Hamilton, his favorite team has always been Red Bull. Here are his words.
Liam Lawson’s comments
In an interview with the official Formula 2 website, Liam Lawson stated: “When I was a kid growing up, I loved watching Lewis Hamilton. He was my hero. I read his book and watched him race in Formula 1 from 2010 onwards.”
The future Red Bull driver concluded his comments by saying: “As I grew older and learned more about racing, especially Formula 1 and the junior categories, I also became much more interested in New Zealand drivers. I think Richie Stanaway was someone I wanted to emulate. I saw him race live, and I was impressed by his driving style. At the time, he was my favorite driver, and in fact, one of my coaches worked with him.”
