Lewis Hamilton was particularly focused on performing well in the Brazilian Grand Prix, a country he has always loved and holds fond memories of. However, the 2024 race did not treat the Briton kindly, as he earned just a handful of points throughout the weekend. In the bitterness of the moment, the champion made a rather cryptic comment: “If the team gives me a car that doesn’t bounce, then I’ll make up for it. Anyway, I can’t wait for Christmas.” Alongside this, a team radio emerged: “If this is my last chance to perform, I’m sorry it went this way.” Immediately, everyone speculated about tensions with the team or even an early retirement, but in reality, it was just a farewell to the staff who wouldn’t be attending the final triple-header.
Ahead of the media day before the Las Vegas GP, Lewis Hamilton wanted to clarify the meaning of those words. “I didn’t want to come back after that weekend. But it’s normal, there’s a lot of frustration after a season like this. Of course, those were off-the-cuff comments; after that race, I didn’t feel very good, and I thought I’d be better off on the beach than on the track. But I’m here, I love this world, and I want to finish in the best way possible. I’ll give everything in these final races, as I planned. In the last few weeks, I’ve worked on many exciting projects, like the Formula 1 movie and my new fashion collection. These things reignite the desire to overcome the difficulties of Brazil,” said the seven-time Formula 1 world champion to the media ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend.
