Lewis Hamilton’s career with Mercedes is coming to an end after 11 years with the team. It’s a story full of success and world championships, which came to a halt in 2021. Since the introduction of the new regulations, Mercedes has never been able to provide a consistently competitive car, except for a few instances. The lowest point of 2024 came in the Brazilian Grand Prix, where Lewis Hamilton vented on the team radio after the race.
The final Brazilian Grand Prix had a bittersweet taste for the seven-time world champion. From a race filled with difficulties due to the extremely difficult-to-handle W15, to the dream of driving Senna’s McLaren at Interlagos.
His W15, unlike George Russell’s, seemed extremely stiff and challenging to drive. The setup was too extreme for the tough conditions that defined the Brazilian weekend. In his radio message, Hamilton was quite clear. “This has been a disastrous weekend, guys, this was the worst car.” Despite this, he reassured the mechanics about their efforts to improve it, saying, “Thank you anyway for continuing to work on it, great job to all the mechanics and the pit crew.”
Interviewed before the Las Vegas weekend, Lewis Hamilton was asked about what happened in Brazil. “At that moment, I felt that way,” Hamilton explained when asked about his reaction after the last race. “I really didn’t want to come back after that weekend. But I think it’s natural, it’s frustrating when you have a season like this, which I’m pretty sure I won’t have again.” – the future Ferrari driver concluded.
The challenge now shifts to Las Vegas, a track where Mercedes’ performance remains uncertain, with cold temperatures and long straights to tackle.
