Eleventh in the sprint race, out in Q1 in qualifying, and only tenth in the main race. This alone would summarize Lewis Hamilton’s disastrous weekend at the 4.309-kilometre Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace in Brazil, where, after the strange incident in Austin, he found himself once again dealing with an increasingly unpredictable W15.
While his Mercedes teammate pulled off a great qualifying performance, securing a fantastic front row start alongside Lando Norris, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion couldn’t find his rhythm, despite being one of the best, if not the best, driver on the grid in extreme wet conditions. Speaking shortly after the race, Hamilton joked that he’d be willing to pay 1 million dollars to anyone who could fix the inconsistency problems of the W15, which, after shining in the middle of the season, seems to have mysteriously faded again.
A Weekend to Forget
“It’s not a good feeling, obviously. It’s devastating to have these poor races in the second half of the season. I can only say we’re trying each weekend, but it’s absolutely not acceptable or enough.” – the future Ferrari driver explained at the end of the Brazilian Grand Prix – “We have to take responsibility. I have to take mine, but I’m doing my best with what I have. For some reason, the car was at its worst this weekend, and I don’t know why. We’ll need to figure it out.”
“The mechanics did a great job, arriving early this morning, practicing pit stops at 4 a.m., and putting in all the work on the car throughout the weekend. One of the cars performed much better, so there’s obviously still potential.” – he pointed out.
When asked why the car is still so unpredictable, Lewis Hamilton added with a laugh, “You tell me. That’s the million-dollar question. If you can find (the answer), I’ll give you a million dollars.” – he concluded.
