Brazil has once again been the scene of an unpleasant event, as several Williams personnel became involved in an attempted armed robbery. This is not the first time such an incident has occurred during the Brazilian GP weekend.
What exactly happened? According to information gathered from the social media profiles of Calum Nicholas, a Red Bull mechanic, some Williams staff members fell victim to wrongdoers. The attempted robbery took place near the hotel where various paddock workers are staying.
In the end, everyone emerged unscathed, and it was just a frightening experience. However, the fact that these unfortunate incidents continue to happen raises significant concerns about safety around the paddock and beyond. Endangering the staff can certainly become a serious issue.
Robbery in Brazil, Jenson Button also fell victim to misfortune
Brazil has already been the backdrop for some unpleasant situations. In 2017, for example, several members of the Mercedes team found themselves in the clutches of some criminals. In that instance, armed robbers had robbed a Mercedes minibus leaving the São Paulo circuit.
Once again, no one was injured, although many valuable items were taken by the robbers. But this isn’t the only precedent. In 2010, Jenson Button was also robbed during the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Jenson Button’s car was surrounded by some robbers, but the vehicle was being driven by an armed police officer who managed to drive off the attackers, allowing the British driver to escape unharmed. In short, despite increased security checks and the fact that drivers, along with team members, are being escorted, they continue to risk ending up in similar situations.
