Aston Martin is already preparing for the 2026 Formula 1 season with one clear objective: to fight for the world championship. The British team has endured a rather disappointing campaign in terms of performance this year, with Fernando Alonso forced to retire once again at the Mexican Grand Prix due to reliability problems. However, 2026 could mark a major turning point for the Silverstone-based squad, as several key changes promise to transform its future.
The arrival of Adrian Newey represents a massive boost for the team, as his vast experience and technical expertise will play a crucial role in developing next year’s car. Equally important is Aston Martin’s new partnership with Honda, which will supply the team’s power units from 2026, officially ending the long-standing collaboration with Mercedes.
Lawrence Stroll’s ambitions
Team owner Lawrence Stroll outlined his bold vision for the team’s future in a video shared on Aston Martin’s official channels. After heavy investments in infrastructure and personnel over the past few years, Stroll made it clear that his mission is nothing short of reaching the top of Formula 1. “I am relentless. I don’t stop until the mission is accomplished. And in this case, the mission is to become world champions,” he declared.
“The entire team is working tirelessly, and we are all looking forward to next year, when there will be major changes to the rules and regulations. Another huge step forward is having Honda as our power unit partner — being an official works team for the first time in our history will be a completely new experience,” Stroll added.
The driver line-up will remain unchanged for 2026, with Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll continuing as teammates. Alonso’s future in Formula 1, however, is expected to depend largely on the performance of next year’s car. In the meantime, Aston Martin recently announced American driver Jak Crawford as its new reserve, replacing Felipe Drugovich. Crawford, currently competing in Formula 2, is battling for the title against Italian driver Leonardo Fornaroli.
