Max Verstappen: “I’m not a red carpet type. At the end of the day, we’re all the same in the bathroom”
Four-time world champion Max Verstappen recently commented on his absence from the F1 The Movie premiere last June, sharing his straightforward perspective on celebrity culture and media appearances.
Max Verstappen, a no-nonsense driver
Over the years, fans and insiders alike have witnessed Max Verstappen’s maturation both on and off the track. Arriving in Formula 1 at just 17 years old, the Dutch driver is now 28, a four-time world champion, and a father. In recent seasons, Max has made it clear that he is always himself, never politically correct, particularly when expressing opinions about F1 matters. His most recent sharp comments targeted the 2026 cars, which he criticized after only two test sessions.
The red carpet joke at F1 The Movie premiere
In the second episode of the Viaplay documentary dedicated to him, Max spoke candidly about skipping the F1 The Movie premiere among the skyscrapers of New York last June: “I don’t feel the need to always be in front of cameras. I’m not the type to enjoy the red carpet; that’s not me. I don’t need to hang out with famous people who are invited. I’m not made that way; I don’t want to stand there in a suit and tie pretending to be important. At the end of the day, we’re all the same in the bathroom” (he said it in a much more colorful way, ed.).
He finished the comment with a big laugh, showing once again that Max Verstappen values authenticity over celebrity appearances.
This candid outlook highlights why Max Verstappen remains one of the most polarizing yet respected figures in the paddock. While the sport continues to embrace its new status as a global entertainment powerhouse, the reigning champion remains firmly focused on the racing itself. For Max, the substance of the 2026 technical challenge and the pursuit of performance far outweigh the artificial glamour of the red carpet, reinforcing his reputation as a driver who values honesty and results above all else.
