Drugovich towards a Formula 1 farewell: the rumor about his future
Felipe Drugovich, currently serving as Aston Martin’s reserve driver, is beginning to explore his options as he considers the next step in his racing career. Inside the British team there seems to be no clear path for him to secure a full-time race seat, and the role of third driver is becoming increasingly limiting for the Brazilian.
The only real chance the 25-year-old had to potentially race in Formula 1, aside from test sessions and FP1 outings, came at the Canadian Grand Prix in 2024. On that occasion, Lance Stroll was unwell and his participation was in doubt, but the Canadian recovered in time to compete, once again leaving Drugovich confined to the garage without the opportunity to make his debut.
To make matters more complicated, Felipe has also been left out of the Cadillac project, which is set to enter Formula 1 next year. According to reports from The Race, Drugovich is now seriously considering leaving Formula 1 altogether. The 2022 Formula 2 champion is expected to join Andretti Global in Formula E for the 2026 season, with the deal likely to be finalized this week. He would replace Swiss driver Nico Mueller, who is leaving the Porsche-powered team.
This would not be Felipe Drugovich’s first contact with Formula E. He previously took part in rookie test sessions with Maserati in Berlin in April 2023. He later returned to the same circuit at the start of 2024, this time with Mahindra, stepping in to replace Nyck de Vries. In those two appearances, the Brazilian finished 17th in one race and 7th in the other, gaining valuable firsthand experience of the unique all-electric single-seaters.
A move to Formula E would give Felipe Drugovich a new stage on which to showcase his talent and finally build a full-time racing career. If the agreement with Andretti is confirmed, he is expected to take part in pre-season testing in Valencia at the end of October, preparing for the opening round of the 2026 championship in São Paulo at the beginning of December.
