Lando Norris warns Red Bull still a step ahead: Verstappen one of the best ever
Norris concerned about Verstappen’s return
The last two race weekends have seen Max Verstappen and Red Bull return to the top, leaving Monza and Baku with maximum points. Could these results worry McLaren? The real test will come at Singapore, a track very different from Monza and Baku. At Marina Bay, high downforce is crucial – a condition in which the papaya team thrives.
If Verstappen and Red Bull bring a strong package to Sunday’s Grand Prix, alarms would sound in Woking. McLaren knows well the strength of the four-time world champion and his team, starting with Lando Norris, who last year could not breach the fortress that “Super Max” built to defend his championship lead.
What Norris said
“It’s not often that they’re slow, and I think people need to stop being surprised by how strong they are,” Lando Norris commented. “Max won at the start of the year and could have won in Melbourne as well, and in other races he was right there. They have been fast all season and made some improvements in Monza that seem to have helped them go even faster. So it’s no surprise; we know they are an incredibly strong team with one of the best drivers ever in Formula 1, and we expect nothing less.”
“They will make our lives difficult for the rest of the season. We struggled a bit in Baku, and at Monza we clearly weren’t fast enough. We have improved, but in Baku Red Bull was on another level in certain areas. We need to understand why. I don’t think we had their pace, and I think we still struggle on circuits with lower downforce,” he concluded.
