Aston Martin is aiming for the World Championship, and Formula 1 could be caught by surprise. Felipe Drugovich sheds some light on the mystery surrounding Aston Martin and Adrian Newey, who is busy developing the next F1 car from Silverstone. The British engineer has been working for several months on Lawrence Stroll’s ambitious project, with a clear goal: to beat Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes, and all the other teams.
Highly sought after across the grid, Adrian Newey ultimately chose to stay in England. Long linked to Ferrari, Adrian Newey is now ready to make his debut with Aston Martin. The 2026 technical revolution represents a golden opportunity for all teams. Everything starts from scratch, with new and ambitious projects focused on sustainability and spectacular racing. The power unit will be fundamental – rumors in the paddock suggest that Mercedes has a lead over the competition – but Silverstone’s engineering expertise remains unmatched.
The partnership with Honda, already successful with Newey at Red Bull, adds optimism. With Fernando Alonso behind the wheel, Aston Martin has all the ingredients to build a competitive season. Newey, the Stratford-upon-Avon engineer, knows this well and is already dreaming of adding a fifteenth Drivers’ Championship and a thirteenth Constructors’ Championship to his brilliant and long career.
Drugovich: “Newey is focused, he doesn’t talk to anyone”
Some insight into Adrian Newey’s work comes from Felipe Drugovich, Aston Martin’s third driver and soon-to-be Formula E racer with Andretti. “I’ve spoken to him only once, at Silverstone,” the Brazilian told Express Sport. “I introduced myself and said ‘nice to meet you.’ That was the only conversation I’ve had with Newey.”
“I think it’s a good thing. He is completely absorbed in his work. He doesn’t talk to anyone, and no one in the team knows exactly what he’s doing. I mean, we know what he’s working on, but he isn’t sharing his plans with anyone. He is extremely focused on that. For this reason, I believe Aston Martin can really perform well next season,” concluded the 2022 Formula 2 champion.
