Lando Norris recounted a highly unusual and frightening incident he experienced during a Formula 1 race that nearly caused a crash. In Formula 1, even the smallest distraction can be critical, and Norris revealed that he came extremely close to danger during the Miami Grand Prix.
During the Quadcast podcast, the British McLaren driver explained that a seemingly harmless sneeze almost led to a serious incident. “Yes, I mean, because your eyes are closed… I think it was under the Safety Car,” Lando Norris said, recalling the moment. “I believe it was Miami, under Safety Car conditions. Fernando Alonso’s car was against the wall. We were under double yellow flags, so you go very slowly and are very close to the car in front of you.”
Referring to the sneeze, Norris admitted that the situation was alarming as soon as he realized he couldn’t hold it back. “And you know when you feel it coming? I thought: ‘Oh my God,’ there’s a car right behind me. And I didn’t even have the reaction to brake, because my eyes closed. I was scared of being rear-ended.”
He added that such an experience had never happened to him before Miami. “But yes, I think it was honestly one of the first times this has happened to me,” Lando Norris concluded.
