After missing the Montmelo race, Lance Stroll is preparing for his home Grand Prix, though the atmosphere could be tense.
He couldn’t miss it—and in fact, he won’t. Despite the unrest that surrounded him and the entire Aston Martin garage on Saturday afternoon in Montmelo—an episode whose aftershocks may still be felt—Lance Stroll has confirmed he will be on the grid for the next round of the championship, the Canadian GP, which kicks off this Friday in his hometown.
Often criticized for his place in F1 due to his billionaire father, Stroll will now have to work on restoring harmony within the team—a balance shaken after a difficult qualifying session in Spain.
Stroll’s Anger After Qualifying
According to various paddock sources, including Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft, Lance Stroll reportedly unleashed a burst of anger following qualifying at the Spanish GP.
Disappointed with his performance, the Canadian driver allegedly threw his helmet forcefully against a wall. He then reportedly raised his voice and insulted Aston Martin’s engineers and mechanics—a claim that was later denied.
Following the incident, the team chose not to let him participate in the race. Officially, the decision was explained as being due to hand and wrist issues, linked to an injury sustained in 2023.
Lance Stroll Had Surgery and Trained at Le Castellet
According to the official statement released by the team shortly after the incident, Lance Stroll’s absence from the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona was due to a resurgence of pain. We now know that on the Monday following the race at the Circuit de Catalunya, he underwent a successful surgery (no further details were provided). News of the operation and his return to racing was announced jointly by Lance Stroll and the Silverstone-based team via social media.
“I’m excited to be back behind the wheel with the team for my home Grand Prix. I fought hard to be ready to race in front of the Montreal crowd. After the surgery, I’m feeling good. I already completed a few laps at Paul Ricard this week to prepare,” he wrote, thanking fans for their support during this difficult period.
Frequently slower than his teammate Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll has so far scored 12 points—10 more than the veteran Spaniard. Fernando Alonso, for his part, has had a rather unlucky start to the season, not helped by an AMR25 that has underperformed compared to expectations.
