Lando Norris finished FP1 and FP2 of the Spanish GP in first and fourth place respectively. At the end of the day, the McLaren driver shared his thoughts on Friday at Montmeló, revealing that he felt more comfortable during the first session. “I think it was a decent Friday. I felt better in FP1 than in FP2, but we’re trying out a few things and we’ll keep working and preparing for the future.”
Looking ahead to qualifying, the Brit said some adjustments were needed to improve his MCL39: “It’s small things. I think one thing we always do very well is show up with a good baseline, and from there it’s hard to improve, which is a good thing, not a bad thing.”
“But it allows us to try different directions, to experiment with different things and get a bit of a feel. That’s the plan for now,” Norris told F1.
Lando Norris-McLaren race pace
During FP2, the McLaren driver completed a 13-lap race simulation, starting on soft tyres, making a pit stop on lap nine, and finishing on mediums. Lando Norris showed very strong race pace, beginning with a lap time of 1:20.066 and improving lap after lap, ending with a 1:18.503.
The Woking-based team remains the favourite for the race, but Verstappen could become one of the most dangerous rivals for Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
