Lando Norris faced a tough weekend at the Dutch Grand Prix
Lando Norris managed to see some positives from the Dutch Grand Prix weekend despite losing 25 points to Oscar Piastri. “I felt faster, but here you need to be eight tenths quicker to overtake,” he explained.
What was meant to be a weekend to reignite his title fight instead turned into a nightmare for Norris. After a strong performance on Friday and Saturday, Oscar Piastri first snatched pole from him by just 12 thousandths of a second. At the start of the race, Max Verstappen overtook him, followed by a chase to get back within striking distance of Oscar Piastri, and finally, an unexpected retirement due to a McLaren engine problem. The outcome has a heavy impact on the championship: the 25 points gained by the Australian now put him 34 points ahead of Norris, a significant margin with nine races remaining.
Norris reflects on the Dutch GP
After the race, Norris shared his disappointment while maintaining composure. “It was a tough race, and obviously I’m a bit disappointed. It’s frustrating, but it was out of my control, so there was nothing I could do,” he said.
Before the retirement, the British driver felt he had delivered a solid performance. “I felt a bit faster, but here you need to be eight tenths quicker to pass, and I wasn’t. I stayed within two seconds of the leaders for almost the entire race, and I think I did a good job. Unfortunately, it didn’t amount to much because it doesn’t add points,” he added.
Looking ahead to Monza
The only positive takeaway is the confirmation of a strong race pace, which Norris hopes to carry into the next round at Monza. “The pace was good, and that’s reassuring. Now we look ahead to the next race,” he concluded.
This retirement could prove decisive in the championship battle: Oscar Piastri is flying high, while Norris is forced to chase a rival who rarely makes mistakes.
