Fernando Alonso furious, sharp team radio and post-race criticism
Fernando Alonso crossed the line in eighth place at the 2025 Dutch Grand Prix, but the two-time world champion was visibly frustrated with Aston Martin’s race management. While the retirements of the Ferrari drivers and Lando Norris, combined with the chaos caused by multiple Safety Cars, allowed the British team to secure points finishes for both cars, Alonso was far from pleased during and after the race.
Points, but frustration remains
Despite both Aston Martins scoring points, Alonso found himself behind his teammate Lance Stroll, who had started from the last position, while Fernando Alonso himself had begun ten places ahead. The Oviedo driver expressed his disappointment in post-race interviews with journalists and Spanish media, questioning the strategy that left him trailing his teammate.
Problematic strategies
“I started tenth,” Fernando Alonso explained. “I had a strong pace throughout the weekend. In the race, I was probably much faster than some of the cars ahead, yet I finished behind a Williams, who struggled this weekend, behind a Haas, which was very slow and didn’t make it past Q1, and behind my teammate who started last and still ended up ahead of me. So clearly, my strategy was completely different, and it didn’t work. Greetings to everyone.”
Alonso also expressed his frustration during the race via team radio. When asked about the car balance on hard tires, he snapped: “I don’t know, damn it! You always put me in traffic! I don’t know!” Later in the race, he used his usual sarcasm to highlight the absurdity of the situation: “All these people we lost positions to, do they have worse tires than us, or are we just losing positions for fun?”
Despite finishing in the points, Fernando Alonso’s anger made it clear that Aston Martin’s strategy choices left him deeply dissatisfied, particularly given that he ended the race behind a teammate who had started from the very back of the grid.
