In the days leading up to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix weekend, Lando Norris found himself at the center of attention for various reasons: his mistakes from the previous weekend in Bahrain, self-criticism as the current championship leader, and rumors originating from former Williams Team Principal, now journalist, Peter Windsor.
According to Peter Windsor, as he mentioned in the Cameron Cc podcast, a Formula 1 driver had secretly tested a WRC car, though he initially withheld the driver’s identity. Later, Windsor claimed it was revealed that the driver in question was Lando Norris: “I hope I’m not revealing too many secrets by saying that I know he was in a WRC car and he’s incredibly good at it.”
These claims, however, did not sit well with Lando Norris, who, during a media session in Jeddah, denied the reports of him testing rally cars: “I would have liked to come here and say, ‘Yes, it’s true,’ but that’s not the case,” he clarified. “I said a couple of years ago that I’m not allowed to. Zak Brown doesn’t let me drive rally cars, probably for a good reason, but I’ve said many times that I’d love to do it. It’s so strange when people come up with these things in the media. Sometimes it’s terrible, instead of asking me before publishing things.”
Lando Norris went on to emphasize that no tests had taken place, but also highlighted his passion for rally driving, stating that he wouldn’t rule out a future in WRC once his F1 career comes to an end: “I have a lot of respect for rally drivers. They’re definitely crazy and a bit wild, but I’d really love it because it’s such a different aspect compared to what I do now. It’s still about driving cars, probably a little more dangerous, so I don’t know how much I’d love it, but it’s another thing in my life that I’d like to tick off at some point, try it, and experience it. So, I hope this becomes a headline one day and becomes the truth.”
