Rain took everyone by surprise. For the first time in Miami, there was a wet race. After two formation laps behind the Safety Car, race control decided to suspend proceedings due to poor visibility. The Miami GP Sprint restarted at 18:28 (Italian time). After a chaotic race, Lando Norris triumphed ahead of Oscar Piastri and Lewis Hamilton.
The British McLaren driver claimed his first victory of the season in a Sprint Race—his second career win—also thanks to the Safety Car caused by Fernando Alonso. Norris, as he was exiting the pits, was able to gain time over his teammate.
The winner’s words
At the end of the Sprint Race, Lando Norris said: “Yes, my luck seems really good right now, here in Miami. The pace was still really strong. It’s always tricky in these races because you never know when to come in, and if you time it well—for example, Lewis had a good strategy and it paid off. I came in later and the Safety Car rewarded me for the second time in a row. I probably would’ve preferred that to happen tomorrow rather than today, but I’ll take it. It was a great job by the team and we had fun.”
Qualifying for tomorrow’s race will take place this evening, and Norris’ goal is clear: pole position. The McLaren driver admitted: “Yes, that’s the plan. There are many fast drivers. Yesterday I felt good but made a couple of mistakes, but I’m ready to go again and I’m excited.”
