Liam Lawson approaches the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix with renewed confidence following a challenging and turbulent start to his Formula 1 season. The New Zealand-born driver, currently competing for the Racing Bulls team after an early and unexpected demotion from Red Bull Racing, has been showing strong signs of recovery and upward momentum in recent races.
After a disappointing opening to the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship, including a sudden replacement by Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda at Red Bull Racing, Liam Lawson was reassigned to the Racing Bulls satellite team. This abrupt reshuffling initially disrupted Lawson’s rhythm, but recent performances indicate a clear resurgence in both pace and confidence.
During the most recent round at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium, Liam Lawson secured a valuable eighth-place finish. This result marked a significant step forward in his campaign, adding much-needed points to his tally and continuing a consistent streak of improved performance. Prior to that, at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, the New Zealander delivered his best weekend of the season so far, achieving sixth place both in qualifying and in the race, underlining his growing synergy with the car and team.
Reflecting on his progress, Liam Lawson acknowledged that while the team had demonstrated strong pace at Spa, his qualifying session was not ideal. In contrast, the Austrian Grand Prix weekend was far more complete and representative of the team’s potential. Lawson emphasized the importance of converting pace into results and warned that the midfield battle is tightening significantly, making it increasingly difficult to stand out.
“We definitely had strong speed at Spa, but my qualifying performance wasn’t perfect,” explained Liam Lawson. “Austria, however, was a much more complete weekend. The speed is there, but what we truly need now is consistency. We must extract the maximum from every opportunity.”
Although the 2025 season has so far presented more challenges than moments of celebration, Liam Lawson affirmed that he has regained mental clarity and a solid internal rhythm. Despite the rollercoaster nature of recent months, he believes that his current trajectory is positive, with the raw speed having been present in several races. The focus now, according to the young driver, must be on translating that potential into concrete results and championship points.
Looking ahead to the Hungarian Grand Prix at the tight and technical Hungaroring circuit near Budapest, Lawson remains focused on maintaining momentum. The circuit’s unique layout, which places a premium on precision and rhythm, could play to his recent strengths. His target is to continue building on the progress shown in Austria and Belgium by delivering another strong performance and reinforcing the positive trend.
With three points-scoring finishes in the last six races, Liam Lawson appears to have found his footing once again. His renewed form is also a sign that Racing Bulls may be undergoing a quiet revival, gradually reasserting themselves in the extremely competitive midfield. Now, Lawson must confirm this upward trajectory with another convincing result in Budapest, capitalizing on the regained speed and confidence that are becoming hallmarks of his current form.
