In the qualifying session for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Lance Stroll was eliminated in Q1 for the third consecutive time this season. The struggling performance of the Aston Martin has prevented the 26-year-old from shining, despite the substantial investments from his father Lawrence, who wants to turn the team into one of the leading outfits in Formula 1.

The elimination in Q1 at Jeddah gave Lance Stroll the unwanted record of being the driver who has failed to make it past the first phase of qualifying the most times, with 75 occurrences. The Canadian surpassed Kevin Magnussen, who is now out of Formula 1 with 74 eliminations, and Marcus Ericsson, who stopped at 71.

Lance Stroll responded with a sarcastic remark when someone pointed out his particular record: “Well, put the McLaren drivers in a Sauber for 10 years and they’ll have the most Q1 eliminations. It depends on the car.”
The Aston Martin driver then explained: “When you have a fast car, you save the tires and make it to Q3. But when your car is slow, you use a million tires in Q1 and most of the time you’re still eliminated. That’s the pace of the car, and that’s how it goes.”
