Andrea Kimi Antonelli is set for F1 with Mercedes, with a Dutch “ally” convinced of his immense potential. The Bologna-born driver will soon make his debut on track with the Brackley-based team. The 2025 season will be challenging, and much will depend on the quality of the new German single-seater. However, Kimi will only need to “be himself” and prove that those who believed in him were not wrong in their calculations.
Without a doubt, Andrea Kimi Antonelli will be one of the hottest names in 2025. While Toto Wolff may urge the media and fans to stay calm, the Italian will carry an enormous amount of pressure, which for many could be overwhelming. Those who believe he is the “new Verstappen” will demand results—maybe not immediately, but certainly over the course of the season.
At the same time, there will be those who will not hesitate to twist the knife in the wound in the event of the—perfectly normal—mistakes of youth. The priority is not to burn out the young Bologna-born talent, and perhaps the Mercedes environment will prove to be ideal in this regard. He also has the support of Nyck de Vries, a driver Kimi Antonelli has known since his karting days with Dino Chiesa.
Nyck De Vries: “Antonelli lives and breathes motorsport”
Speaking to motorsport.com, the Dutch driver does not hide his great admiration for the young rookie: “I really like him, I’ve been following him since his karting days because he raced with Dino Chiesa, just like me. I have pictures with him on my phone from when I joined Mercedes in Formula 1. I went to the kart track in Lonato, and we took a picture together.”
“I think he’s a fantastic guy. He has incredible talent, he lives and breathes racing. Apart from Max, honestly, I don’t know anyone who lives for this sport as much as he does. He just needs to be himself. He deserves this opportunity, he knows what he’s doing, and he just needs to give himself time to find his speed and learn.” – he concluded.
