Official Entry into the Family
A new star has officially joined the Red Bull family, though this time the energy drink giant’s latest acquisition isn’t in motorsport but football. During a press conference held at the famous Hangar-7 in Salzburg, Jurgen Klopp, former coach of Mainz, Borussia Dortmund, and Liverpool, was formally introduced as the new Head of Global Soccer for the Red Bull group.
Helmut Marko, the long-time consultant for the F1 team, had previously spoken highly of the German coach, expressing his desire to introduce Klopp to the team for a sort of motivational “private lesson.” The admiration between the Milton Keynes team and one of football’s most successful managers in recent years is clearly mutual.
Speed and Focus
During the press conference, Jurgen Klopp expressed his wish to meet Max Verstappen, the team’s leading driver and winner of the last four consecutive Drivers’ World Championships. The Dutch champion, an avid football fan and supporter of PSV Eindhoven, is friends with Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, one of Jurgen Klopp’s former players.
“Max Verstappen? There would be so many things to talk about,” Jurgen Klopp said. “Not just about how focused he is, but about all sorts of things. It’s truly incredible. I’d love to spend some time with him to understand how he does what he does—constantly at 300 km/h in the car and still performing at the top of his mental game. It’s fascinating.”
It wouldn’t be surprising, therefore, to see Klopp as a guest of his “colleagues” in Formula 1 during a race weekend in 2025, amid his travels around the world to oversee Red Bull’s football teams.
