The Colombian’s opinion
Five seconds penalty for being responsible for the incident, but no penalty points on his racing license. Lando Norris finished the Canadian Grand Prix with zero points, falling 22 points behind Oscar Piastri, but the misjudgment he made at the end of the Montreal race will not have further consequences because the time penalty has already been applied to the final race classification, which still includes Norris since his retirement came in the closing laps.
Juan Pablo Montoya did not hold back in criticizing the McLaren driver, who according to the Colombian deserved penalty points on his license as well: “What Lando did was really stupid. He caused a collision. You either penalize him or you don’t – Juan Pablo Montoya said to CasinoHawks – Are there levels where you can get a penalty without points? Normally, anyone who does something stupid gets points on their license. That’s what Max Verstappen always complains about, and that’s why he sometimes points out that nationality can make a difference in the eyes of the stewards.”
Juan Pablo Montoya believes Lando Norris is too emotional and that this is Oscar Piastri’s good fortune: “Oscar is always ready to ‘pick up the pieces.’ Every weekend Lando Norris seems faster, then Q3 comes and Oscar Piastri is ahead. At that point, Norris puts himself in a position where he cannot afford to make mistakes, and that’s when he obviously does.” – the former Formula 1 driver concluded at the end of the Canadian Grand Prix, which was held at the 4.361-kilometre Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal last Sunday.
