Juan Pablo Montoya confident Aston Martin will win a Formula 1 world title by 2028. Juan Pablo Montoya believes Aston Martin will secure a Formula 1 World Championship by 2028.

Aston Martin, 2025 F1 car

Juan Pablo Montoya believes Fernando Alonso could have a genuine shot at glory as early as next season. The Colombian’s comments underline the growing optimism surrounding Aston Martin’s future in Formula 1.

The words of Montoya

Lawrence Stroll continues to make significant investments, assembling top-tier technical talent in a bid—so far unsuccessful—to bring Aston Martin into F1’s elite. The team briefly tasted success at the start of 2023 but failed to secure a victory and gradually lost momentum throughout the season.

The plan for 2026, when Formula 1 regulations undergo a major overhaul, looks flawless on paper. Honda will provide exclusive power units—a company that, despite numerous setbacks between 2015 and 2018, later helped Max Verstappen and Red Bull achieve six consecutive World Championships between 2021 and 2024. At the drawing board, the legendary Adrian Newey, fresh from a successful collaboration with Honda in Milton Keynes, will oversee Aston Martin’s technical development.

Montoya is confident Aston Martin will appear in the World Drivers’ Championship record books no later than 2028. “Fernando Alonso cannot be ruled out of the title fight next year,” Montoya told PokerStrategy. “If Adrian Newey makes Aston Martin competitive in 2026, Fernando Alonso could achieve it in 2027. Aston Martin will have a world champion within the next three years, I guarantee it. Every time Honda has fully committed to F1, they have won. I’m not 100% certain Aston Martin will be competitive next year, but if Newey finds the right gray areas in the regulations, they will dominate.”
