A 2024 of highs and lows
Red Bull’s season was far from smooth. At the start, despite internal turmoil caused by the Horner case and numerous departures, the car was dominant—securing three one-two finishes in the first four race weekends. However, during the period of internal reconciliation, Verstappen managed only two wins after late June, which still secured him the world championship title.
What Jos Verstappen thinks
“From a sporting perspective, it was a less enjoyable year than previous ones, with all the risks surrounding the team,” Jos Verstappen stated in an interview with *De Telegraaf*, emphasizing: “Everything went very differently from what we expected. To what extent the rumors around the team impacted performance is always hard to determine.”
Jos Verstappen is not known for diplomacy, but his candor ensures honesty in his press encounters: “That people would leave because of this mess was logical. What the team principal does or doesn’t do affects everything around the team, including Max. And I’m involved in this. I see what happens, and I think I’m in a position to speak about it. But I would never harm Max—I look at the bigger picture. In the end, I don’t take back anything I said.”
Max’s father doesn’t deny that the situation at the top of Red Bull F1 has calmed down: “I have that feeling. Even Helmut Marko now seems to have regained more influence, and I think that’s positive. The team is growing, and there have been many changes. The pressure is high, as it should be. It’s up to the team to prove they’ve kept capable people on board and are ready to produce another fast car,” concluded Jos Verstappen.
