An uncertain future
On August 27, on the eve of the Monza Grand Prix, Williams, in light of yet another accident at Zandvoort, announced the immediate dismissal of Logan Sargeant. Franco Colapinto was then officially announced as his replacement for the final third of the championship, with Carlos Sainz set to take the seat in 2025.
After the separation, the driver from Fort Lauderdale wanted to thank the English team and James Vowles for the opportunity given to him over the last year and a half, but since then, he has almost disappeared from the scene.
What is known today is that the former Williams driver will have the opportunity to conduct a private test at The Thermal Club circuit in California with Meyer Shank Racing in IndyCar on November 19, but there is still no confirmation of where and with whom he will race next season.
Providing some more clues on how the American’s career might evolve was James Vowles himself, who told Beyond The Grid: “I think Logan gave everything he had, but he wasn’t at the right level or value for what we needed, that’s all.”
“It was never about a lack of confidence, lack of grit, or lack of motivation. He spent all the time he could trying to get faster, but he reached the end of the road in terms of what he was capable of achieving.” – he pointed our.
Compared to Alex Albon, according to James Vowles, Logan “was off by a tenth or two. In previous years, a tenth or two would have kept you in the right position, but now it no longer does. It moves you back five positions. He absolutely has the ability to become a champion in many other series, no doubt about it.” – the Williams team principal added.
When asked if he believes Logan Sargeant has the ability and the means to assert himself as a champion in another category, such as IndyCar or WEC, James Vowles finally responded: “Without a doubt in all categories. He’s among the top 20 drivers in motorsport, which will be controversial, and there will be a group of people very frustrated by this, but that’s his level.”
