Jack Doohan, Alpine’s new driver, has spoken again about his future and expectations for his first season in Formula 1. While it will be his rookie season, it won’t be his absolute debut, as he already had the opportunity to drive in the last Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Despite the season not having officially started yet, Jack Doohan’s future already seems uncertain. Last January, Alpine announced Franco Colapinto as its new reserve driver. The Argentine made his Formula 1 debut at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix when Williams selected him to replace Logan Sargeant. His performances were impressive enough to attract the attention of multiple teams. However, his results weren’t sufficient to secure a full-time seat for 2025, and Alpine seized the opportunity to sign the young talent.
Team Principal Oliver Oakes explained the reasoning behind this decision on the *James Allen on F1* podcast and reassured Doohan about his future: “I don’t think the intention is to put [pressure] on Jack Doohan’s shoulders. It’s honestly about giving the team more options going forward. There are a lot of people depending on a driver to deliver every weekend, and we have to make sure we have the best drivers in the cars—not just now, but also for the future.”
Jack Doohan’s Opportunity
At the Autosport Awards, Jack Doohan spoke to *Sky Sports* about this pivotal moment in his career: “It’s a really special time for me. I’m excited to be part of it. I’m very motivated. I can’t wait to get on track, work, and drive that car as best as possible. Being one of the 20 drivers on the grid is very special, and I can’t wait to secure my place here for the future.”
