Imola to screen Mexico City GP for free as Kimi Antonelli closes in on historic F1 world title

Kimi Antonelli, Mercedes W17, 2026 F1

Imola is preparing to celebrate a potentially historic moment for Italian motorsport, with the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari announcing a free public screening of the 2026 Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix on Sunday, 1 November. Fans will be able to watch Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s attempt to secure his first world championship on a giant screen inside the Checco Costa Museum, with the event scheduled from 20:30 to 23:00 local time.

The Mercedes driver is on the verge of becoming Italy’s first Formula 1 world champion in 73 years, following a dominant 2026 season in which he has remained firmly in control of the championship battle. At just 20 years old, Andrea Kimi Antonelli is preparing to join the elite of Italian sporting history, and the city of Imola is inviting fans to come together for what could become an unforgettable evening.

Imola Circuit announces free screening for Kimi Antonelli’s Mexico GP title bid

Excitement surrounding Andrea Kimi Antonelli continues to grow as the Mexico City Grand Prix approaches. The young Italian’s performances have brought him within touching distance of the world championship, raising the possibility of Italy celebrating its first Drivers’ title since Alberto Ascari’s triumph in 1953.

His victory at the United States Grand Prix in Austin represented another decisive step towards securing the championship, leaving the Mercedes driver with an opportunity to complete the achievement in Mexico.

To mark the occasion, Imola Circuit has organised a special event designed to bring together Formula 1 supporters and the local community. The Checco Costa Museum, located within the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari, will host a giant-screen broadcast of the Mexico City Grand Prix on Sunday, 1 November, from 20:30 until 23:00.

Admission will be completely free, with entry available until the venue reaches its maximum capacity. The initiative is being promoted by the Municipality of Imola, Formula Imola and IF Imola Faenza Tourism Company, allowing local residents, families and motorsport enthusiasts to experience the potentially historic race together.

Imola mayor celebrates Ferrari tradition and Kimi Antonelli’s rise

Imola mayor Marco Panieri has welcomed the initiative, emphasising the special connection between the city, Formula 1 and its own emerging motorsport star. While Ferrari remains deeply rooted in the local sporting culture, Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s extraordinary rise has generated an additional wave of enthusiasm among supporters.

“The passion for Ferrari is part of our DNA and always beats very strongly in all our hearts, but today that red allegiance is joined by enthusiasm for an extraordinary talent from our area who has everything it takes to make history,” Marco Panieri explained.

“I invite everyone to take part: it will be a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community, rally around a young talent from our area and experience our passion for Formula 1 together.”

The mayor’s comments reflect the significance of Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s potential achievement for the wider Italian motorsport community. Although the Mercedes driver competes against Ferrari on track, his pursuit of the world championship represents an opportunity for Italian supporters to celebrate a milestone that has remained out of reach for more than seven decades.

Checco Costa Museum hopes to welcome families and F1 fans

Pietro Benvenuti, general manager of Imola Circuit, also expressed his hope that the event would attract a large crowd. The organisers want the museum to provide a welcoming setting where fans and families can support Andrea Kimi Antonelli while sharing their enthusiasm for Formula 1.

“We hope that on Sunday the Checco Costa Museum Hall will be filled with fans and families, ready to support Kimi and enjoy an evening of sport marked by the passion that connects Imola to Formula 1,” Pietro Benvenuti said.

The free screening will give supporters the opportunity to follow every moment of the Italian driver’s championship bid together. With the 2026 Formula 1 title potentially being decided at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, Imola could become the setting for a celebration extending far beyond the Mexican circuit.

For those planning to attend, the event takes place on Sunday, 1 November, between 20:30 and 23:00 at the Checco Costa Museum inside Imola Circuit. Entry is free, although places are limited and will be allocated until capacity is reached.

Fans following the championship from elsewhere can also consult the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix schedule and race start times ahead of a weekend that could see Andrea Kimi Antonelli make Formula 1 history.
