Esteban Ocon was one of the standout drivers at the Mexican Grand Prix, bringing Haas to a valuable ninth place while supporting teammate Oliver Bearman, who delivered an extraordinary race finishing just shy of the podium. The result confirms the growth of the American team, now consistently scoring points thanks also to the upgrades introduced in recent races.
Starting from twelfth position, behind Oliver Bearman, Esteban Ocon seemed destined for a support role, but the race quickly took a different turn. After the opening laps, the Frenchman managed to overtake Oscar Piastri’s McLaren and adopt a perfect defensive strategy to benefit his teammate, who meanwhile climbed to third place by taking advantage of early-race contacts.
“In general, it was a fantastic weekend for the team, we showed we had great pace,” Ocon commented after the race. “I tried to maximize performance, but we were a bit unlucky with some incidents. At the start, I got touched and then got stuck behind Yuki, who defended like I had never seen before.”
Ocon’s help for Bearman’s fourth place in Mexico
Ocon’s fiercest battle came against Yuki Tsunoda and the Red Bull. After several attempts, the Frenchman completed a decisive overtake, with slight contact between the cars.
“He changed trajectory under braking, that was the problem. And unfortunately, he had already ruined my qualifying, even though it wasn’t his fault,” Ocon explained. “We lost eight or nine seconds behind him in the first stint and I couldn’t pass. Once clear, the pace was excellent, but by then it was too late.”
Later, Ocon defended strongly against Piastri to protect Bearman:
“I defended against Oscar to help Ollie. I cost him four to six seconds in that fight, and it was important to consolidate the team’s result.”
The double points finish represents one of Haas’ best performances of the season.
“We haven’t yet fully exploited the potential of the upgrades, but the pace was really good. The car behaved well, and we can be satisfied with the work done,” the Frenchman said, highlighting how the team is improving in every area.
Esteban Ocon’s ninth place and Oliver Bearman’s just-off-the-podium finish allowed Haas to strengthen their position in the Constructors’ Championship, overtaking increasingly fierce direct competition.
