George Russell, a convincing start
In the first five race weekends of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship, George Russell has almost always maximized the performance of his Mercedes. Jeddah was the only track that didn’t favor the Brit, partly due to higher-than-expected tire degradation on the W16, and now #63 wants to return to the podium in Miami.
George Russell needs results. He has the full trust of team principal Toto Wolff, but with Max Verstappen possibly making a sensational move, all teams are forced to monitor the driver market carefully. Especially Mercedes, the only top team still “exposed” regarding its 2026 driver lineup: the contracts of both George Russell and Kimi Antonelli expire at the end of the year.
George Russell’s words
George Russell’s performances are further boosting the Briton’s profile. Since results alone might not be enough, #63 is also reinforcing his position with strong words: “I absolutely feel ready to win the World Championship, to be honest,” he told The Athletic (New York Times).
“Every time we’ve had a half-chance at a win or pole position, we’ve taken it. I feel like I’m getting stronger every season. I feel ready and I believe in myself. I think I’m on the same level as any driver on the grid,” he added. “I’ll never say my performances are the best, because I think believing you’re at the top is the beginning of decline. You always have to believe you can give more.” – the British driver concluded ahead of the Miami Grand Prix, which is set to take place this weekend at the Miami International Autodrome in Florida, USA.
