Yuki Tsunoda is not clicking
In the seven races contested under Red Bull colours, Yuki Tsunoda has collected only seven points. A result that obviously does not please the Anglo-Austrian team, which expected better performances from the Japanese driver compared to what Liam Lawson showed in the first two rounds of the championship.
Helmut Marko’s verdict
In his analysis for Speedweek, Helmut Marko commented on Red Bull’s situation, stating: “We’re still three or four tenths behind McLaren, the disappointment is huge. If we don’t improve, our chances of winning the Drivers’ Championship will vanish. In the Constructors’ Championship we have no more chances, obviously also because of the second driver, since Yuki Tsunoda is adapting slowly.”
Helmut Marko remains highly critical of Yuki Tsunoda: “He’s scored one point in the last three races, and that’s not satisfactory. He damaged the floor and other new components in Imola, so he’s not using the same material as Max. What’s troubling is that Yuki is often just one tenth off Max in free practice, but in qualifying the gap widens. That’s when the pressure is on, and he struggles. He needs more time to adapt, and he’ll get it. We expect him to remain in the car until the end of the season.” – the Red Bull advisor concluded ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, which is set to take place at the 4.361-kilometre Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal next Sunday.
