The chances of Sergio Perez continuing to drive for Red Bull in the 2025 Formula 1 championship seem to have drastically decreased after what happened at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin. It is no secret that the two Visa Cash App Racing Bulls drivers, Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson, are under evaluation to determine who deserves the spot alongside Verstappen, and with the performance shown by the New Zealander, everything suggests that he will be the Mexican’s successor if things don’t change.
Checo partly attributed the gap to Max Verstappen to the updated components used in the Dutchman’s car. As reported by British national daily tabloid newspaper ‘The Mirror’, he claimed that Red Bull favored his teammate with an upgrade package, making him significantly faster in Austin’s high-speed corners.
Sergio Perez stated: “I don’t have the same updates as Max, we can see that a lot in the fast corners, which are many, but in the end, the car works well. We’ve made progress, and with the changes made, it’s been easier to drive.” – he explained.
However, Helmut Marko quickly silenced these claims, denying what the Mexican said. In an interview with *ESPN Deportes*, the Austrian team’s super consultant said: “There are only marginal differences.”
At the end of the United States GP, Helmut Marko also wanted to praise the newcomer Liam Lawson, saying: “He made an exceptional debut. His speed was already evident in Q1, where he set the third fastest time. He always had everything under control and made great overtakes. You have to put young drivers in the car. He is definitely a man for the future.”
With these words of praise for the New Zealander, the Austrian made it clear that Sergio Perez’s future is truly in doubt, and according to some rumors, it is said that during his home weekend, which will begin in a few days, Sergio Perez might also announce his retirement from Formula 1 at the end of the year. We will see if this rumor proves to be true, but most of all, we just have to wait to find out the future line-up of the Red Bull team.
