Will Lando Norris manage to become champion in 2025? Online fans don’t seem very convinced. Last year, the McLaren driver had a chance to fight for his first title, at least until Max Verstappen delivered one of his greatest performances ever in Brazil.
The Dutchman, already counted out after a disappointing qualifying (and a penalty), started from 17th on the grid. It was a comeback race for the Red Bull driver, who astonishingly managed to win it.
This took away Lando Norris’s last chance to fight for the world championship: he would have needed a miracle in Las Vegas, which did not happen. With two races to spare, Max Verstappen clinched his fourth consecutive title in the cold Sin City of Nevada.
The British driver was still crucial in helping McLaren secure the Constructors’ Championship in Abu Dhabi. Last year, Lando Norris won a total of four races.
The Woking team is preparing for 2025 with the goal of maintaining its position at the top. The MCL39 was the first car to be unveiled and is already considered a strong contender. However, Formula 1 fans don’t believe 2025 will be Lando Norris’s year.
According to a poll conducted by RacingNews365, more than half of the voters think the young British driver is not yet ready to fight for the championship. The numbers are clear: 50.50% of voters believe Lando Norris will not win the F1 title; 36.63% are more optimistic and want to place their trust in the McLaren driver. Finally, the undecided make up 12.87%, unsure of the right answer.
Lando Norris and the criticism
Norris knows he fell short of expectations in 2024, and he responds to criticism like this: “I always criticize myself. I want my team to criticize me. The thing I probably hate the most in the world is people trying to make me feel good in the wrong way. I prefer criticism over fake happiness. That’s just the way I am,” he explained on The Fast and the Curious podcast.
For 2025, Norris has said he has changed his mindset: “I know I will make mistakes and that I won’t have perfect races, just like any other athlete. I don’t care what people say. I’m always the first to criticize myself.”
