Guanyu Zhou’s future seems increasingly distant from the Sauber team: the Chinese driver has stated that he has received multiple offers from teams in other motorsport categories.
Guanyu Zhou’s career in F1 has not been particularly bright. He debuted in the top tier in 2022 after participating in a FP1 session in Austria with the Alpine team. In his three seasons, including the current one, he has only made six points-scoring appearances.
He has a total of twelve points, which have not moved him beyond eighteenth place in the final championship standings. This year’s situation is even more critical. Due to the difficulties faced by the Sauber team, the Chinese driver has yet to score any points, with eleventh place being his best result in Bahrain.
Despite these disappointing results, he is currently in twentieth place in the championship standings, ahead of teammate Valtteri Bottas. The latter may, surprisingly, be re-signed for the next season with the Swiss team’s car.
Regardless of what happens, Guanyu Zhou claims to have other options to consider in the future if he does not secure a renewal with Sauber. “All I can say is that I already have several offers from teams in other motorsport categories for next year.” – he explained – “At the moment, of course, I still want my place at Sauber, but if I were to lose it, we would start evaluating other available options. I think there could be a great future in other categories as well.” – the Chinese driver concluded.
