Fear in Q1 of the Imola Grand Prix: Yuki Tsunoda was involved in a dramatic crash at the Villeneuve corner. Fortunately, the Japanese Red Bull driver emerged unscathed from the cockpit, despite the spectacular airborne moment and violent impact with the barriers.
Yuki Tsunoda crashes and red flag: here’s what happened
The incident occurred during the first qualifying session, with several minutes still remaining. Yuki Tsunoda, while tackling the Villeneuve chicane, lost control of his car after aggressively hitting the kerb. His Red Bull literally took off, lost grip, and slammed hard into the barriers, prompting the marshals to immediately wave the red flag.
Despite the heavy impact, Yuki Tsunoda managed to exit the car on his own, confirming he was okay. A frightening scene, but thankfully with no physical consequences for the driver or the spectators. It now remains to be seen whether the car can be repaired in time for the rest of the race weekend.
